Very Early Signs Of Pregnancy Heartburn

Missed Period - missing a menstrual period is regarded as the most obvious very early pregnancy symptom. However, many women have missed periods for other reasons and conditions. These reasons include illness, stress, hormone imbalance, adverse reactions to foods and ingestion of substances that result in some level of adverse reaction. For missing a period to be related to the very early symptoms of pregnancy, it should be confirmed by other means.

Nasal Congestion: Sometimes the nose of the pregnant women becomes clog repeatedly. The proper knowledge helps the woman to understand that it is mainly because of nasal congestion which is an unusual sign of pregnancy. Nasal congestion contributes in giving even more uncomfortable and sleepless nights as is generally the case during seasonal flu. It sometimes results in the bleeding of nose as well. This nasal congestion is not accompanied by any other sign of seasonal cold. So whenever the woman who is expecting or planning pregnancy faces a repeated nasal congestion in the perfect weather then it is good to consult doctor.

One of the first signs you will have during early pregnancy is feeling bloated and weight gain. If you haven't been indulging in excess treats and you find your clothes getting a little tighter this might be a sign of pregnancy. You are probably expecting your period soon, so you might be discouraged by some slight spotting or bleeding; this is actually common during implantation and is called implantation bleeding, so if it isn't quite like your period then it's possible this is what you are seeing.

Nausea or Morning Sickness - Feeling nausea or rushing to loo frequently for vomiting is one of the surest indications of pregnancy. Since this tendency of feeling nausea in the morning or often throughout the day is quite different from normal queasy feeling, so it is a prominent early pregnancy sign. Expecting mothers can manage discomforts of nausea by managing their diets by eating less spicy food and taking small meals instead of larger meals.

You will have to adapt to these situations in order to stay healthy. The breast tenderness is among the most common early pregnancy symptoms because you will begin to get ready for the future motherhood. Your breasts will change their texture. They will become softer because they are preparing for the future milk production. Even so, the breast tenderness can also be related to other causes such as a sign of impending and severe menstruation. Therefore, you will have to check the real cause of your breast tenderness in order to find out whether you are pregnant or not.

Increased urination. This symptom of early pregnancy occurs due to the increase in blood and other body fluids, which is processed by the kidneys and ends up in the bladder. This increase in urination will most likely only worsen as your pregnancy progresses.

Breast tenderness is also one of the most common early pregnancy signs symptoms. Women usually notice such things when getting dressed, showering, exercising, or when trying to get comfortable at bedtime. Pregnancy causes significant increases in hormones. The body starts preparing itself to accommodate the baby. The symptoms keep changing with the growth of the baby during the entire nine months. The moment conception takes place, along with other bodily changes; the breasts also begin preparing themselves for breastfeeding, which results in breasts being sore, swollen, tender, and extra sensitive.

Some women only feel nauseous. Others experience nausea along with vomiting. More often than not, this symptom attacks at any time of the day or night but is most evident in the morning. Some women feel like vomiting in the morning when they take in food with an empty stomach. This feeling of queasiness can begin as early as the second week after conception. Pregnant women also develop a heightened sense of smell causing them to be sensitive to certain aromas.

Thanks and god bless.

    • ANSWER:
Yes everything you just mentioned are signs of pregnancy. I'm not sure about having symptoms that early. My first pregnancy test (at 3 weeks pregnant) (3 days before my missed period) was my first sign. I didn't have no real signs until I was 7 weeks & that was morning sickness. You can get them sooner, but not until after you missed period. They only way to know is to wait & take a PT test.

  2. QUESTION:
what are the early signs of pregnancy?
Me and my boyfriend had sex about 2 weeks ago, and i have been having a real bad stomach cramp. I also have been throwing up, sick a lot, and always tired. I need to know all the early signs of pregnancy.

    • ANSWER:
      Heartburn
      Nausea
      Cramps
      Feeling tired
      Mood swings
      Missed period
      Vaginal discharge
      Sore breasts

These are all that I can think of. Early pregnancy is a lot like when your period is coming. Not everyone experiences them all, some only experience a few. Others don't experience them at all.

  3. QUESTION:
Is it possible to have heartburn/morning sickness just a few days after conception?
We had intercourse on Sunday, and it is now Thursday and I have been a little nauseated since last night, and this morning I woke up with heartburn...Could this be an early sign of pregnancy, or just wishful thinking? My mouth keeps watering like I might throw up, but I'm just a little nauseated.

    • ANSWER:
That would be a negative. Your hormones (HCG) needs to build up a bit before you experience any of those symptoms. If there is enough hcg in your body, you would be able to turn a pregnancy test positive.

  4. QUESTION:

  9. QUESTION:
How early can you experience pregnancy sypmtoms and what are the early signs?
My last period started august 30, my cycles are usually 36-38 days so im expecting my period around the sixth. I've noticed some nausea and really bad heartburn to the point i've been grabbing tums one after the other all day long. signs or pregnancy? or am i just paranoid?

    • ANSWER:
The way I realized something was up was because I would be cooking dinner for my husband and the smell of the hamburger meat would make me physically sick and gagging. Also I instinctively quit smoking, I just didn't want them anymore, but I did this not knowing I was pregnant. Anyways, I was using pepto Bismal when I started to feel nauseous and not know why, lol. But pepto isnt good for the baby although tums are fine. Just take a pregnancy test. I think it takes about 2-4 weeks for you to notice signs and symptoms.

Edit: I couldn't tell just because my period was missing since my periods have been irregular for as long as I can remember.

  10. QUESTION:
What are the signs of pregnancy. I dont want to do the urine test because I dont want to be disappointed?
I am about 20 days late on my period, but this is a common thing for me to miss cycles. We are trying to get pregnant and I am trying to find signs in my body to tell me whether I am pregnant or not. I decided to wait a couple of weeks before taking the pregnany test but I'd like to know :-D

      Implantaion bleeding and cramping

Hon, i know exactly what it's like to take a test, get a negative result and be totally crushed! my husband and i tried for 3 yrs to get pregnant. BUT it happened. you can't hide away wishing it were so..you must TEST.
if you want to feel like you have more control of the situation and your test shows that your not pregnant, i would suggest getting some home ovulation kits. they help you chart when you are ovulating and that way you will know exactly when to have sex in order to have a better chance at pregnancy.
my husband and i tried (like i said) for 3yrs, about 2 1/2 yrs without the ovulation kits, mostly because i too didn't want to be disappointed. BUT i got over that, and got serious. 6 months after charting my ovulation we were pregnant! i have a beautiful daughter w/him (our first together, we each have a son from a pervious marriage as well). so when we wanted another child i used those kits!! and 2 months after trying we were pregnant again!

don't give up, don't get discouraged, and DON'T wait around because your scared! take control!

  12. QUESTION:
What are the first and earliest signs of pregnancy?
I've had constant nausia for the last week and a half. I've always eaten spicey foods, but got heartburn the last time I just ate chips & salsa. So tired, every day. I've been on the pill for 8 years, and always take it right. Is it possible for me to get pregnant?

    • ANSWER:
I experienced fatigue, especially while at work. Lol, particularly at a bad time, I was up for a promotion, it didn't help my job performance all that well. Lol. That's what prompted me to take a pregnancy test. I felt fatigued, I would crave foods I didn't normally eat, I could barely eat, food just wouldn't stay down because of the nausea. I was horribly cranky! Almost like PMS, and I've never had PMS. I missed my cycle by 3 days, so I was concerned about that. I slept way too much. I cold sleep a whole day away. After my test came out positive I went to the doctor, and they said I was 6 weeks pregnant. I'm almost 20 weeks now. Symptoms are different for everyone though. So, it may vary for you.

  13. QUESTION:
Is waking up hot and sweating a sign of pregnancy?
My periods are very irregular, and I really don't know when I'm ovulating. So, we have just been having sex regularly. Earlier this week I had slight nausea. I didn't get sick but my stomach was in a knot. I also woke up with slight heartburn. What I'm wondering about is waking up so hot and sweating. I am not sick, and the nights are in the 30's. Is this a sign of pregnancy?

    • ANSWER:
I can answer this because i know how you feel. I woke up for about a week last month sweating but unfortunately i wasn't pregnant. Saying that, it just means that i wouldn't take feeling hot as a sign of pregnancy. You could still be but don't use the heat as a method to find out. Just do a test. If it has been more than 4 weeks since your last period it could come back positive. Good luck on that.

Pregnancy Symptoms — Early Signs of Pregnancy
Pregnancy symptoms differ from woman to woman and pregnancy to pregnancy; however, one of the most significant pregnancy symptoms is a delayed or missed menstrual cycle. Understanding pregnancy symptoms is important because each symptom may be related to something other than pregnancy. Some women experience pregnancy symptoms within a week of conception. For other women, symptoms may develop over a few weeks or may not be present at all. Below is a listing of some of the most common pregnancy symptoms. If you have been sexually active and experiencing any of the following symptoms it is important to take a pregnancy test. Find a Free Testing Center

      Implantation Bleeding:
Implantation bleeding can be one of the earliest pregnancy symptoms. About 6-12 days after conception, the embryo implants itself into the uterine wall. Some women will experience spotting as well as some cramping.

Other Explanations: Actual menstruation, altered menstruation, changes in birth control pill, infection, or abrasion from intercourse.

      Delay/Difference in Menstruation:
A delayed or missed menstruation is the most common pregnancy symptom leading a woman to test for pregnancy. When you become pregnant, your next period should be missed. Many women can bleed while they are pregnant, but typically the bleeding will be shorter or lighter than a normal period. This symptom is commonly explained by other reasons. If you have been sexually active and have missed a period, it is recommended that you take a test: Find a Free Testing Center or Order my pregnancy test

Other Explanations: Excessive weight gain/loss, fatigue, hormonal problems, tension, stress, ceasing to take the birth control pill, or breast-feeding.

      Swollen/Tender Breasts:
Swollen or tender breasts is a pregnancy symptom which may begin as early as 1-2 weeks after conception. Women may notice changes in their breasts; they may be tender to the touch, sore, or swollen.

Other Explanations: Hormonal imbalance, birth control pills, impending menstruation (PMS) can also cause your breasts to be swollen or tender.

      Fatigue/Tiredness:
Feeling fatigued or more tired is a pregnancy symptom which can also start as early as the first week after conception.

Other Explanations: Stress, exhaustion, depression, common cold or flu, or other illnesses can also leave you feeling tired or fatigued.

      Nausea/Morning Sickness:
This well-known pregnancy symptom will often show up between 2-8 weeks after conception. Some women are fortunate to not deal with morning sickness at all, while others will feel nauseous throughout most of their pregnancy.

Other Explanations: Food poisoning, stress, or other stomach disorders can also cause you to feel queasy.

      Backaches:
Lower backaches may be a symptom that occurs early in pregnancy; however, it is common to experience a dull backache throughout an entire pregnancy.

Other Explanations: Impending menstruation, stress, other back problems, and physical or mental strains.

      Headaches:
The sudden rise of hormones in your body can cause you to have headaches early in pregnancy.

Other Explanations: Dehydration, caffeine withdrawal, impending menstruation, eye strain, or other ailments can be the source of frequent or chronic headaches.

      Frequent Urination:
Around 6-8 weeks after conception, you may find yourself making a few extra trips to the bathroom.

Other Explanations: Urinary tract infection, diabetes, increasing liquid intake, or taking excessive diuretics.

      Darkening of Areolas:
If you are pregnant, the skin around your nipples may get darker.

Other Explanations: Hormonal imbalance unrelated to pregnancy or may be a leftover effect from a previous pregnancy.

      Food Cravings:
While you may not have a strong desire to eat pickles and ice cream, many women will feel cravings for certain foods when they are pregnant. This can last throughout your entire pregnancy.

Other Explanations: Poor diet, lack of a certain nutrient, stress, depression, or impending menstruation.

  20. QUESTION:
I have a really weird metallic taste in my mouth?
today i woke up and my tongue feel really numb, like i'd drank something boiling hot and burnt my tongue. I also have a really metaly taste in my mouth, i tried drinking juice and eating different foods, brushing my teeth and tongue but it wont go away? What is this a symptom of and could this be an early sign of pregnancy?

    • ANSWER:
Taste alteration refers to a decrease in the ability to taste foods (hypogeusia), changes in how food tastes (dysgeusia), or the complete loss of the ability to taste foods (ageusia). It also refers to the presence of a metallic or medicine-like taste in the mouth. Taste alterations may occur as a result of cancer treatment, infection within the mouth, or the cancer itself.

Taste alteration can have a significant effect on the nutritional status of a cancer patient. Patients with taste alteration may avoid certain foods, lose their appetite (anorexia), and lose weight. Eating can be a chore when the patient also has a dry mouth (xerostomia) or a mouth infection, such as thrush.

A metallic taste in the mouth( a condition called dysgeusia) is a fairly common problem — and usually not serious. Although you don't have actual taste buds that detect metals, the perception of the taste is described as "metallic."

This is not a life-threatening experience but just an inconvenience.

A metallic taste can be due to many factors. But the most common causes of a metallic taste are:

?Medications such as some antibiotics, prenatal vitamins and antidepressants, as well as drugs used to treat high blood pressure, rheumatoid arthritis and kidney stones
?Oral problems, including oral infections such as gingivitis or periodontitis, tooth infections, and poor oral hygiene

Sometimes the cause of a metallic taste can't be determined. In many cases, the problem goes away on its own after several months or longer. Proper oral hygiene can help, including regularly brushing your teeth and brushing and scraping your tongue. Done properly, dental restorations — such as fillings and inlays — are rarely the cause of a metallic taste.

      Pregnancy
Pregnancy is one of the foremost causes of a metallic taste in the mouth. When you become pregnant, your body experiences many changes. One of those changes is an influx of excess hormones, like estrogen. According to the book, "What to Expect While Expecting," excess estrogen can cause a distinct metallic taste in the mouth that doesn't go away with tooth brushing. Another cause of a metallic taste in your mouth is the change you may experience in your newly minted sense of smell. While you may find that your sense of smell is better than ever, it affects your sense of taste as well, sometimes resulting in a unpleasant metallic taste in your mouth.

Dysgeusia can be caused by upper respiratory tract infections, hormonal changes, some medications (such as Capoten or Captoril- for high blood pressure problems) or Flagyl ((metronidazole) or Biaxin (clarithromycin) for infection; Griseofulvin, (used to treat skin infections); Lithium for bipolar; plus some drugs used to treat cancer; tobacco smoke or nasal polyps.; kidney stones; and too much copper in the body.

      Other causes are Mercury Poisoning;

      Dental Work and Gum Disease.
There are several reasons for this condition, including lack of dental hygiene, dental caries leading to infections of the oral cavity, other infections such as gingivitis or periodontitis and tooth abscess.

Other medical conditions such as gastritis, heartburn, jaundice and copper, lead or mercury poisoning can also lead to a metallic taste in the mouth

You might also want to visit your dentist, because the taste might be a symptom of gum disease. Even if you don't have gum problems, poor oral hygiene can affect taste. Be sure to brush your teeth carefully at least twice a day and use a tongue scraper to remove the bacteria and debris that can collect on your tongue. Dental work done in the past can break down and alter taste, so your dentist will probably look at that as well.

In addition, not drinking enough water can contribute to problems with taste. Increase your intake and see if it helps. While you don't have to drink the standard recommendation of eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day, my rule of thumb is to drink as much of that amount as you comfortably can and more than you think you need.

In order to get rid of this metallic taste in the mouth, it is essential to constantly drink water to wash out the toxins residing in the mouth and improve the general immunity of the body.

Proper mouth cleaning and an increase in zinc intake can cure dysgeusia.
Surgery to the head or neck can also cause taste alteration. Metallic or medicine-like tastes can be caused by a zinc deficiency or by increased levels of calcium or lactate.

Rinsing the mouth with salted water, water containing baking soda, tea, or ginger ale before eating may be helpful. Brushing and flossing should be performed carefully to prevent damage to the weakened mouth tissues. Using a waterpick can help.

Baking soda can wash away the plagues and food particles. It also helps in neutralizing the acid balance in the mouth and leaves a cleaner and fresher taste in the mouth..

If you rule out all of these possible causes and still have the taste, it might be worthwhile to consult with a practitioner of Chinese medicine. That system might have an answer for you!!

Long time ago; when I had a heart attack( MI) ; I tasted this metallic taste in my mouth ( it was copper tasting). My husband confirmed it as he had a history of heart attacks. My cardiac patients also can attest to this similar experience.

This is a guideline only...taken from "what to expect when your expecting". Many pregnancy symptoms come and go or don't show at all and can happen at any time and each are different from woman to woman...with that in mind-

Morning sickness- 2-8 weeks after conception.
Frequent urination- Usually 6-8 weeks after conception.
Tingling, tender, swollen breasts- As early as a few days after conception.
Changes in colour of vaginal and cervical tissue (during a medical exam)- First trimester.
Darkening of the areola and elevation of tiny glands around nipple- First trimester.
Blue and pink lines under skin on breasts and later on abdomen- First trimester.
      Food cravings- First trimester.
Darkening of line from navel to pubis- 4th or 5th month.
Softening of the uterus and cervix (during med exam)- 2-8 weeks after conception.
Enlarging uterus and abdomen (during med exam)- 8-12 weeks.
Intermittent painless contractions- early in pregnancy, increasing in frequency as pregnancy advances.
Fetal movements- First noted at 16-22 weeks of pregnancy.
Visual of embryo or gestational sac through ultrasound- As early as 4-6 weeks after conception.
Fetal heartbeat- At 10-20 weeks (depending on device used)
Fetal movements felt through abdomen- After 16 weeks.
Month 1- Fatigue and sleepiness, frequent urination, nausea with or without vomiting, excess salivation, heartburn, indigestion, flatulence, bloating, food aversions, cravings, breast changes.
      Good luck :)

  28. QUESTION:

I'm not sure if I'm pregnant or not since my period isn't due yet, and I wanna wait til it's past due before I take a test; but if I am I should be about 2 weeks or so. I only had a few symptoms, such as breast tenderness, bloating, and back pain. So based on this scenario could I be pregnant?

    • ANSWER:
It sounds like you're ovulating. Heartburn is a symptom but i think you should get checked out if you're heart beat is so rapid. I don't think that's normal at all. I would call the doctor to make sure nothings wrong.

    As for my question....
I have had really bad heartburn all day. Could this be an early sign?

Heartburn is not a pregnancy symptom! Pregnant women get heartburn as the baby gets bigger it squashes the stomach upwards and sends the stomachs acid up the gullet...hense heartburn!
People will tell u it's a symptom but it's not they just probably ate or drank something that didn't agree with them!

  35. QUESTION:
What are the early signs of knowing if your pregnant?
I want to know if their is any noticable signs of being pregnant within the first 3 weeks of having sex!!!!

    • ANSWER:
The onset and degree of pregnancy symptoms will vary within women. Many women experience them within days of conception, others take a few weeks before pregnancy symptoms kick in and a lucky few feel no discomfort at all. The early pregnancy symptoms listed here generally can be felt once implantation occurs (8 - 10 days from ovulation) and will lessen after the first trimester.

It is frustrating to realize that many pregnancy symptoms are very similar to those that occur right before menstruating. However, combined with high temperatures and a longer luteal phase - they are key indications that you are pregnant!

      Nausea and Vomiting

      * Nausea and vomiting may come as early as a week into the pregnancy. Many women experience illness in the morning (morning sickness), some in the afternoon or evening, others feel nausea throughout the entire day. There is no explanation as to why pregnant women feel this or even a solution as to how to prevent it - however, eating small frequent meals, and snacking on saltine crackers seems to give some kind of relief. Eating a protein/carbo-hydrate at bedtime (try an apple and a glass of milk) tends to lessen the nausea that occurs in the morning.

      Breast Tenderness

      * Breasts may be very tender, swollen and start to enlarge. Many times the veins within the breast will become more visible. Your nipples may start to darken in color, become more erect and be extremely sensitive. These symptoms are due to increasing amount of HCG hormone that begins at implantation.

      Frequent Urination

      * Pregnancy causes the uterus to swell and it will start to enlarge for the growing fetus immediately. The uterus puts pressure on your bladder making you feel the need for more frequent urination. Many women start to feel this symptom within a week or two after pregnancy has occurred.

      Feeling Tired / Sluggish

      * This one is pretty obvious. When pregnant your body is going through some major hormonal changes. HCG levels alone go from 0 - 250,000 mIU/ml in just twelve weeks. Your temperature is also higher due to the amount progesterone circulating through your body which will also make you feel a little sluggish.

      Missed Period / Light Bleeding

      * Light bleeding (spotting) may occur approximately 8 - 10 days from ovulation. It usually happens around the same time you would have gotten your menstrual period. Some women assume they have started their period when in fact they are pregnant. The spotting is caused from implantation which is when the fertilized egg burrows into the endometrial lining.

      Dizziness and/or Fainting

      * When standing in one place you may feel dizzy or even faint. The growing uterus compresses major arteries in your legs which causes your blood pressure to drop making you extremely light headed. Skipping meals or going too long without eating may cause you to feel dizzy or faint. When not eating frequently enough it causes low blood sugar. Blood sugar is the primary source of food for your baby so it will be depleted much more quickly.

      Constipation

      * Pregnancy hormones will slow down bowel functions to give maximum absorption time of vitamins and nutrients. Unfortunately, this symptom usually only gets worse as the pregnancy progresses.

      Irritability

      * Raging hormones are the cause of this...along with having to put up with all the other symptoms. This symptom should decrease soon into the second trimester but until then, a healthy diet, moderate exercise and plenty of sleep should help the crabbiness somewhat.

      Heartburn

      * The uterus is very swollen and starts to push upward as it grows. The increasing levels of HCG will also slow down digestion making your stomach not empty as fast which increases the stomach acid.

  37. QUESTION:
How soon are there signs of pregnancy?
How soon will it take after conception to feel the first "side effects" of pregnancy?
Also, I am on the pill, I am only on my thrid week of pills, have not missed any, and take them at the same time every day. I know its possible to get pregnant on the pill...I had a light flow last night and this morning and wonder if this could also be a sign.

    • ANSWER:
      Early signs of pregnancy: #1

      Missed Period
Perhaps the most obvious early symptom of pregnancy is when you've missed your period. This possible sign of pregnancy is often what causes women to search for more details about the other pregnancy symptoms.

Some women might only experience a much lighter period compared to their usual. You might not experience any of the pregnancy signs listed below until around the time you notice you've missed your monthly cycle.

      Early signs of pregnancy: #2

      Just "Feeling" Pregnant
This early pregnancy symptom may be the reason why you are checking this list right now. Many women believe they have an intuition about pregnancy signs. Their intuition is often proven correct.

Maybe you just feel different; tired, moody, queasy, lightheaded. You may also have heartburn, constipation, or find yourself making more frequent trips to the restroom. Perhaps you feel a dull ache or stiffness in your lower back, you have sore breasts or they seem overly sensitive, or you are simply not feeling like your usual self.

      Early signs of pregnancy: #3

      Breast Tenderness
One of the very noticeable early signs of pregnancy is tender, swollen, somewhat sore breasts. You may notice this pregnancy sign at bedtime when you are trying to get comfortable and go to sleep, when exercising or showering, or when getting dressed.

When you become pregnant, your body begins preparing your breasts for producing milk and breastfeeding. Hormones start increasing. In addition to breast tenderness and swelling, your nipples may feel sore or extra sensitive. Some women notice their nipples darken in color.

Your breasts play an important role in childbirth. They are naturally sensitive and become far more so when pregnant. This is one of the most obvious early symptoms of pregnancy.

      Early signs of pregnancy: #4

      Fatigue
One of the earliest pregnancy signs for some women may be fatigue and exhaustion. You may start going to bed sooner, or find it harder than usual to get out of bed in the morning. If you are working, by noon you may feel like you need to lie down. Exercising seems like too much effort. A simple activity like shopping may leave you feeling wiped out and lightheaded. This early pregnancy symptom is caused by all of the changes that your body is going through, plus the increasing levels of hormones.

If you know you are pregnant, try to take frequent rests or naps of 15 minutes to a half-hour whenever possible. Explain to your family, friends and coworkers that you need these naps. Ask for their help in blocking out rest times for you.

      Early signs of pregnancy: #5

      Frequent Urination
An early symptom of pregnancy that others may notice you experiencing is frequent trips to the restroom. Your family or friends may comment that you seem to be going off to the ladies room quite often lately. One cause of this pregnancy symptom is that the swelling uterus can put pressure on your bladder.

Also, pregnancy causes extra body fluids to be processed by your kidneys and bladder. That means more trips to the restroom. Sorry to have to say this, but this symptom of pregnancy may remain constant for nine months.

      Early signs of pregnancy: #6

      Nausea
One of these pregnancy signs of queasiness, nausea and vomiting can take you by surprise when you least expect it. These early pregnancy symptoms may come as soon as a week into the pregnancy. Many women experience illness in the morning when they have coffee and/or eat something on an empty stomach. This is known as morning sickness. Other women notice nausea in the afternoon or evening. Others feel queasy all day.

This pregnancy symptom may often be helped by eating smaller, more frequent snack size meals. Many women say saltine crackers and milk seem to be helpful. This is an early symptom of pregnancy that seems to show up about a month after pregnancy has begun. It tends to level off once you are into your second trimester and your body adjusts to all the many changes it is going through.

      Early signs of pregnancy: #7

      Dizziness and/or Fainting
One of the more surprising pregnancy signs is dizziness and/or fainting. Going up stairs, standing up suddenly after sitting for a time, or just having to stand in line at the grocery store can make you feel light headed. You might even faint. As the uterus swells it compresses arteries in your legs. This can drop your blood pressure and make you dizzy.

A common early sign of pregnancy is that you may feel faint when you have gone a while without eating. This is due to low blood sugar, because that is your baby's main source of food. You want to eat frequent, healthy snacks to keep your blood sugar up. Stock up on portable lunch box foods you can take with you. Such as apples, bananas, grapes, yogurt cups, carrots and celery, cheese and crackers, small cartons of milk, juice boxes, granola bars, boxes of raisins, etc.

      Early signs of pregnancy: #8

Food Cravings, or Aversions to Foods
A well-known cliché is the pregnancy sign-symptom of craving certain foods or unusual combinations of foods. For example, one woman said she craved midnight snacks of warm peach pie topped with vanilla ice cream. Everyone has a funny story about food cravings.

Taking a good pre-natal vitamin supplement and a pure fish oil capsule may ease some cravings and help prevent extra weight gain (see below) ... and of course it is doctor recommended for the health of your baby.

Less well known but equally common pregnancy signs are aversions to certain foods. You may find that some foods you previously enjoyed are no longer appetizing. One woman told us she had always liked pizza, but couldn't stand it at all while she was expecting. Just the smell of it made her feel nausea. This problem may come and go for some women. For others it could last throughout pregnancy.

      Early signs of pregnancy: #9

      Sensitivity to Aromas
Another related early symptom of pregnancy is a heightened sensitivity to aromas. Even a favorite aroma, such as the smell of a food or perfume, can make you gag. The smell of fresh mowed grass, the smell of a gas station, smells of various foods, household cleaners, perfumes, cigarette smoke, etc., can all cause you to feel nauseated (see nausea symptom above). This is thought to be yet another side effect of the estrogen that is flooding your body.

      Early signs of pregnancy: #10

      Heartburn and/or Constipation
This pregnancy symptom is caused by the uterus starting to swell and pushing against the stomach and other organs as it grows. Also, increasing levels of hormones may slow down digestion and bowel functions to allow the body to absorb as much vitamins, minerals and nutrients as possible from foods. Taking a quality prenatal multi-vitamin-mineral supplement is important to help your body get the nutrients it needs for your growing baby.

The slower emptying of the stomach may also cause the release of increased stomach acid to aid digestion, leading to a feeling of heartburn. Soda crackers and sparkling water can help. Smaller more frequent meals are easier to digest. Drink plenty of water and eat fruits, vegetables and perhaps some raisin and bran cereal to help regularity. Some daily vitamin formulas also contain digestive enzymes (from pineapple and papaya fruits). These can help with digestion.

Ask your doctor before taking any kind of antacids as some contain aluminum and should be avoided. These two pregnancy symptoms can last throughout your term.

      Early signs of pregnancy: #11

      Mood Swings and Irritability

With all of these symptoms of pregnancy to deal with, along with raging hormones, is it any wonder you may experience some mood swings and irritability? There is also the emotional adjustment period to your new responsibility. Your world has changed. Even when your pregnancy is carefully planned, it is normal for your mind to suddenly be filled with questions about the timing, your career, finances, insurance, labor and delivery, motherhood, even the future costs of college.

It is perfectly normal to feel mixed emotions, excitement and depression, joy and sorrow, laughter and tears. Your partner may be very confused by this and may not seem to be supportive. Explain that your mood swings are very normal signs of pregnancy and that you need support and understanding.

You are the one doing all the hard work here and it is not asking too much for your partner to be patient, loving and to have plenty of hugs and kind words of support ready when you need them. Most fathers-to-be want very much to be supportive, they just need instructions. No one has ever told them anything about pregnancy symptoms. It is all a mystery to them.

We encourage you to email or print-out this early symptom of pregnancy checklist so your partner can read it too.

This early symptom of pregnancy may decrease in the second trimester. Meanwhile get plenty of sleep, eat right, take your prenatal vitamins and get some moderate exercise by taking short walks.

      Early signs of pregnancy: #12

      Higher body temperature
One of the pregnancy symptoms that takes a while to gauge is higher than usual body temperature. You may have been feeling a little bit warm lately and wondered if you are coming down with a cold or something. Take your temperature and see if it is higher than it normally would be.

If you've been trying to conceive and hoping to get pregnant (it's a tough job but somebody has to do it), your doctor may already have suggested that you keep a record of your body temperature every day. If your temperature is higher than usual and it stays high for two weeks in a row, something is obviously going on with your body. You may be pregnant (or you may have a low grade fever). Prolonged periods of increased temperature are a cause to seek your doctor's opinion.

      Early signs of pregnancy: #13

      Implantation Bleeding
One of the less known pregnancy symptoms is the slight bleeding and spotting that can be caused when the fertilized egg begins to implant itself into the uterus. This is known as "implantation bleeding" and it usually takes place between 3 to 6 days after fertilization.

Once the egg becomes implanted in the uterus - congratulations, you are no longer wondering about pregnancy symptoms, you are indeed pregnant. At this point you might notice a little bit of red or pink spotting. Not all women experience implantation bleeding so it is not considered one of the most obvious pregnancy signs.

      Early signs of pregnancy: #14

      A Positive Pregnancy Test
If you are worrying about possible early symptoms of pregnancy, you can put your mind at ease with a pregnancy test. More than just a pregnancy symptom, this is scientific proof positive of whether you are expecting a baby or not.

Pregnancy tests work best if you wait to take them until at least a day or two after you miss your period. Even if the pregnancy test result is negative you should try it again a few days later to be sure. The best pregnancy tests are the ones done by your doctor or medical clinic. However there are some very high quality at home tests available too.

      Early signs of pregnancy: #15

      Weight Gain
Yes the unavoidable weight gain is also a sign. Your clothes are getting tighter, you are feeling bloated, the weight showing on the scale is going up... you are getting bigger and that is simply part of being pregnant.

However your odd food cravings may not be as strong if you are taking your prenatal vitamins and fish oil capsules. The cravings may be due to your body's need for special nutrition. The importance of pre-natal vitamins and fish oil capsules

Your doctor will tell you that if you are trying to conceive, or you believe you may be experiencing early pregnancy symptoms, you should be taking daily pre-natal vitamins. Vitamin supplements offer support for trying to conceive, for your health and for the health of your baby.

Your body is under great nutritional demands to feed the growing little person inside you. For example, the March of Dimes encourages women to take a multi-vitamin containing folic acid, (a B vitamin).

Folic acid can help prevent birth defects. Help your body and your baby's body get the nutrition it needs. Take a quality pre-natal vitamin with folic acid.

Many pregnant women are now also taking a high quality pharmaceutical grade quality fish oil supplement. This gives you the important nutrients of DHA and omega-3 for healthy babies.

It has been shown in clinical studies that diets rich in omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil which provides DHA, will help to provide nutritional support to a baby's visual, nerve and brain function.

Fish oil capsules vary in quality. Distilled pharmaceutical grade fish oil is thought by many to be the very best quality. Don't take any chances on the quality of some "mystery fish" oil ... the very best kind we've ever found in our endless research is this amazingly good fish oil.

  38. QUESTION:
What signs did your body show a few days before going into labor?
I have been having irregular contractions, can't sleep, heartburn- of course, moody, diarheaa, exhausted, severe pelvic pain.
I have been having this for a few days now. I have 3 other kids, but I was induced before I started going into labor. I'm almost 34 weeks. Thanks!
Also, shortness of breath, nausea, and vomiting.

    • ANSWER:
Ohh, those days are hard, aren't they? The words "miserably uncomfortable" were created for the last four weeks of pregnancy. To try and answer your question, I have heard of women who experienced diarheaa, a feeling like the baby's head is "coming out" it's that low, loss of a mucus plug, even the strong urge to clean out every cupboard and closet in the house. Of course, some women experience these and other symptoms for weeks before going into labor. With my 1st, (I was 16) I felt no symptoms at all not even BH contractions and was induced at 41 weeks. With my 2nd (at 26) I had diarheaa, horrible BH contractions, no appetite, and was sooo uncomfortable in the lower back and pelvis. Went early at 39 weeks. The truth is every birth is different, you probably know better than anyone whether you're close to labor or not. Whatever the case may be, I hope you put your feet up and enjoy what quiet days you have left and happy pushing!

  44. QUESTION:
when can heartburn start in pregnancy?
can it be an early pregnancy sign? I've been having it for a few days now

    • ANSWER:
Heartburn isn't actually a symptom of pregnancy and will usually occur in the last trimester of pregnancy, due to the baby putting pressure on your organs.

When I was carrying my first baby, I never had heartburn, even in the later stages. With this pregnancy, I've only had it once or twice and that was right at the start.

So I wouldnt bank on being pregnant, just from heart burn.

  45. QUESTION:
How soon do you typically feel the symptoms associated with pregnancy?
It's too soon for me to take a pregnancy test. My period isn't due until the end of the month. There's a chance that I am pregnant right now but I'm curious if I would be feeling symptoms, such as morning sickness, this early if I am pregnant.

    • ANSWER:
It's really different for each woman. You normally see the signs of pregnancy before you feel them. For me, it was a missed period, then more-than-usual discharge, extra trips to urinate, tender breasts, and then exhaustion. All in that order. I'm waiting on the morning sickness. It happened to me the last two times, and it hates me. Then will come the hip sciatica problem, heartburn, and more exhaustion and peeing. Finally, swelling of legs and feet and the baby will be here soon. All typical for me. But like I said, every woman is different.

  46. QUESTION:
How many of you are at the end of pregnancy?
    Hows it going?
Are you eager for it to be over now?

Im 35 weeks pregnant by scan date and 36.5 weeks by my dates also my first two children were born early, my bump has moved lower and im permanantly in pain and aching, ive been having terrible painful braxton hicks for weeks now so im looking foward to it all coming to an end and meeting my little one.

    • ANSWER:
      Hiya!

I will be 38 weeks on Thursday and can't wait for baby to come. My mum was 2 - 3 weeks early with me and my three siblings so I'm hoping that will run in the family although I've shown no signs at all so far - not even Braxton Hicks! Am going out to buy some raspberry leaf tea tomorrow and then maybe a few long walks!!

Feel very lucky to have had a relatively easy pregnancy so far (touch wood!). Only thing I've suffered is terrible heartburn, but so far haven't been too uncomfortable or anything.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy! x

Other Early Symptoms of Pregnancy in Detail

      Cravings for Particular Foods
Desiring particular or unusual types of food is a well known pregnancy symptom. About 85 percent of women report at least one food craving during pregnancy.

      Implantation Cramping and Spotting
Following ovulation by 8 days, women may experience cramping and slight spotting - caused by the recent implantation of the egg in the uterine lining.

      Frequent Urination
Following implantation, frequent urination is a common symptom.

Fatigue, Headaches, and Heartburn - and Morning Sickness
For many women, early symptoms of pregnancy can be a bit perturbing. Fatigue is common, as are headaches and heartburn. And then there is morning sickness - the second most well know pregnancy symptoms after "food cravings". Increases in progesterone can also cause feelings of tiredness.

      Basal Body Temperature
If you are charting your Basal Body Temperature, and your BBT remains high - and continues to remain high for 15 days or more without a period - this is a clear symptom of pregnancy.

      hCG Testing
Home Pregnancy Tests are available online and at your drugstore. A positive result will confirm your suspicions! Some FDA approved tests (available online) allow you to determine pregnancy as early as 7-10 days past ovulation.

  49. QUESTION:
Is more CM than usuall a sign of pregancy?
Is more CM than usual a sign of pregnancy? My breast are sore but not to bad and Ive had a bit of heartburn..I never get heartburn but it hasn't been to bad either. I o on the 3rd but hope all went well cuz I tried pretty hard:) would early signs be showing up yet? Is the 13th a good day to test since I start AF on the 17th? wish me luck!

    • ANSWER:
The 13th may be a little early to check. Technically you could, but I wouldn't want you to get discouraged with a BFP, I think it's nice thinking that you are and treating your body as such, until you miss your period! You stay a lot more positive that way! If you waited till the 19th, I would consider that result the honest truth - that way you don't waste as many tests!

  50. QUESTION:
Can you get a negative pregnancy test at 11 dpo and still be pregnant?
I ovulated either the 25th or 26th for sure. I think my period is due Monday or Tuesday. I took a test tonight and got a very definite negative. However Ive been having symptoms that are very similar to what I had when I was pregnant with my son. Like heartburn and nausea. Also I haven't had any signs of my period coming. Is it possible I just tested too early and could still get a positive later? If so when would the test turn positive?

    • ANSWER:
      Yes, definitely.

I read of plenty of success stories about women getting faint positives as early as 7DPO, so me being me started testing from 7DPO.

I got negatives , even on the day my period was due, and the day after it. I ended up so miserable I was inconsolable.

2 days after my period was due, I took another test, thinking it was negative straight away I threw it in frustration on the bench (sounds a bit dramatic, but we had been TTC for a long time).
2 minutes after that, I went to wash my hands after emptying out my urine sample, and there was the faintest positive!
The line was so faint I just thought it was an evap line, so I tested again the next day, sure enough, a BFP!

I wish I had never have read about women getting positives so early...it would have saved me a lot of misery!
