Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What are the most common symptoms for Pregnancy?
What are the most common symptoms for Pregnancy? And which order do they come in? What is the earliest symptoms to the latest symptoms?

    • ANSWER:
Obviously a missed period is a common symptom, but everything else just depends on the person.
Some people get morning sickness, some people don't. Some people get headaches, others don't.

I'm 36 weeks into my first pregnancy, and I got horrible morning sickness, but I never got the sore breasts, headaches, moodiness, etc. that some people get.

Generally though, some common symptoms of pregnancy are:

      Missed Period
      Swollen/Tender Breasts
      Fatigue/Tiredness
      Nausea/Morning Sickness
      Heartburn
      Moodiness
      Headaches
      Frequent Urination
      Food Cravings/Aversions

My first symptom other than a missed period was heartburn.
It started around 5 1/2 weeks, and morning sickness kicked in about a week later.
Food aversions was another one of my first symptoms.

Everybody is different though! If you're pregnant, you'll just have to wait and see how it goes for you!
      Good luck! :)

How soon should I take a test?
I have the symptoms of pregnancy. Nausea, heartburn, sore breasts, and I have to have chinese food all of a sudden. The only thing is it's hard to tell with me because I do not have a regular cycle unless I am on birth control. Obviously I am not at this time or this wouldn't be a question. So being that my cycle is irregular I am not sure how soon I should take a test. I haven't had my period in 3 mths but the last time I felt like this i was pregant. I also waited 7 weeks because I couldn't believe it was possible. (I was told by a doctor it would be difficult to get pregnant) I'm a little anxious this time, but I don't want to test too soon.

    • ANSWER:
      Its not too soon if you havnt had a period in 3 months...test!...;

  6. QUESTION:
When does implantation occur, and what do the cramps feel like?
I am two days late with my period. I have not had any period or pregnancy symptoms except for heartburn and indigestion throughout the day and hot flashes. I have taken two pregnancy tests which were negative. Right now I am experiencing slight cramping; it doesn't feel like my usual period cramps either. Could I be experiencing implantation cramps? Should I retest in a couple days, or could I possibly be testing wrong to get a negative answer? I am really hoping to be pregnant. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
Implantation normally occurs about 3-7 days after your period. Sometimes implantation will occur around the same time as your period which is why women mistaken implantation bleeding for their period. If it is indeed, implantation occurring, the embryo won't start releasing enough HCG until about 3-4 days after implantation happens. :D

I've had my period for 4 years but I've missed the past 2. I've got constipation, heartburn and nausea. Is there something else that I could have?
Also, the constant need for the toilet and a backache.
What do you think it could be?

    • ANSWER:
No you are not pregnant. Have you been under alot of stress and/or doing extensive exercising and/or extreme dieting? these could cause what you are feeling. As well as if you really want a baby, you might start to experience "pregnancy" symptoms, mind is a powerful tool.

  10. QUESTION:
Is it possible to have symptoms of pregnancy before a test shows as positive?
i have done two tests(both neg) but my question is, if i have symptoms of pregnancy but tests show up neg, is it possible that i have taken the tests too early but i am feeling the symtoms because i am pregnant? I have a doctors appointment on in two days to find out, but would love to know your feedback/experiences.
it has been maybe two weeks since being 'intimate' so, is it too early for a positive test result, but still possible for symtoms?

    hope this makes sense...

    • ANSWER:
I had symtoms as soon as 4 days after conceiving. I had heartburn, bloating and small cramping feeling, also my belly felt sore to lay on. My cervix stayed high after ovulation and wasn't coming down so I knew I was pregnant. I tested 3 times negative before getting my positive. I didnt get my positive until the day of my missed period on my first morning pee. So hang in there, I knew I was pregnant and sites I was reading said I could have symtoms that early, they were wrong. I am now 6 weeks 4 days along and I am feeling great! All my symptoms from a day or two after I found out vanished, The only symptoms I have now is sore heavy boobs and I get very tired at around 3 pm and so on......GOOD LUCK!!!

  14. QUESTION:
What were your pregnancy symptoms when you were pregnant?
Im just curious and i need to know to compare them to what symptoms i have. Sry just looking up on the internet doesnt help so id thought id ask other woman.

    • ANSWER:
Symptoms of pregnancy can begin even before your first missed period. There are so many of them. Consider these early signs and symptoms of pregnancy which are found in most pregnancies.

      Missed Period

When we have a missed period pregnancy is the first thing that we think of because it’s one of the more reliable signs.

      Unusual or Abnormal Period

An abnormal period may be a sign of pregnancy. This is a menstrual cycle that is not the same as normal. It could be a difference in the amount of flow.

      Nausea and Vomiting

Better known as morning sickness this is one of the first pregnancy symptom.

      Soreness the Breasts

Many women have changes to their breast tissue. You could notice that your breasts are sore or tender, your nipples may become larger or after the first trimester your breast begin to grow.

      Strange Cravings

No it’s not always pickles or ice cream but studies show that most women have cravings during pregnancy.

      Skin Changes

The one you will think of first is the stretch marks. About 50 - 90% of all pregnant women usually get them. They normally show up in the lower abdomen area.

      Fatigue

Exhaustion and Fatigue for some women are one of the early signs of pregnancy. What causes this is what your body is going through. Another cause is increasing levels of hormones.

      Frequent Urination

Frequent trips to the bathroom is also an early sign of pregnancy. What causes this is when you pregnant you get extra body fluids that of course has to be processed by your kidneys and bladder.

      Sensitivity to Aromas

In some women the sensitivity to aromas may occur. Just the smell of certain foods or anything that you are around everyday can cause you to feel nauseated.

      Heartburn

Some women can het heartburn caused by the uterus starting to swell and pushing against the stomach.

      Emotional Mood Swings

Pregnancy can really get to your emotions. You can have fixed emotions where you are excited and depression at the same time. Your mind can run wild on you with questions about everything which you then start to worry.

      Backaches

Lower backaches may be a symptom that occurs early in pregnancy; however it is common to experience a dull backache throughout an entire pregnancy.

  15. QUESTION:
What symptoms of pregnancy did you first get?
Before you knew you were pregnant, what were your symptoms?

    • ANSWER:
lol it looks like you and I just asked the same question at the same time!
I'm not pregnant, but these are ones I've read of:

      Sore Breasts
      Sensitivity to smell/light
      Spot bleeding between periods
      Cramping
      Gas
      Heartburn
      Constipation
Nausea (which I actually read can start as soon as ONE week after conception!)
A 'sixth sense' of just 'feeling pregnant'

  16. QUESTION:

My wife is 2 months pregnant with twins. but for some reason, she isnt experiencing any of the symptoms of pregnancy but I am! Is this normal! He started getting the "morning sickness", and now, as I'm about 8 months, he's been getting the heartburn too! (He eats a lot of weird things anyways from being southern, so I wouldnt know if he gets the cravings, or if he just likes nasty food). Its ok, it just means that you are really in-tune with the whole pregnancy thing.

  17. QUESTION:
Is lower back pain and uneasiness when I sit in a spot for a long period of time signs of pregnancy?
It has been 5 months since my last period, and I have been having most of the symptoms of pregnancy (sore breast, light headed, indegestion, heart burn, cramping, irregular urination...) I took the test 1 month of missing my period and it came back negative, I haven't gone to the doctor because 1, i'm scared, and 2 because my periods have always been irregular, so I think im just thinking to much into it. Lately I've been getting heartburn and indegestion when I looked up on the internet signs these were some of the things I should be feeling by my 4th month. I just need to know what I should do and is there something i should be looking for to know if im pregnant or not.

    • ANSWER:
Well, let me see!!! i have two children. i missed one period and went straight to the doctor. maybe 1.5 mo. this is when the test was taken for that specific, then it was confirmed by a gyn. if i was/z or was/zent.

Any of these symptoms could be a sign that something is wrong with your pregnancy. Don't wait for your prenatal visit to talk about it. Call your doctor right away if you experience:
      Severe abdominal pain
      Significant bleeding
      Severe dizziness
Rapid weight gain (more than 6.5 pounds per month) or too little weight gain (less than 2 pounds per month by the end of the first trimester)

  19. QUESTION:
What are the chances of getting pregnant after tubal ligation banding?
I had tubal ligation banding almost 5 years ago and my period has been somewhat on time every month since. However, this month, I'm over two weeks late and I am having pregnancy symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, and heartburn. I can't bring myself to buy a test because I feel there is no way I can be pregnant, but I'm starting to wonder. So, what are my chances of getting pregnant after tubal ligation banding?

    • ANSWER:
In that case, the more time goes by, the higher the chance of getting pregnant gets. Just take a test, what's the worst that could happen?

  20. QUESTION:
What were your first symptoms of pregnancy?
My hubby and I are actively trying for baby #2. My period is due in about 5 days. I have had severe heartburn for 3 days but that's it. There are no other symptoms. Is this normal and would heartburn even happen this early? I know I am not imagining the heartburn either, because its killing me! Any advice?? Did anyone show symptoms 9dpo?

    • ANSWER:
First symptom was missing my period. However, heartburn doesn't usually show up until way later. Baby isn't big enough to be causing problems at this point, and you don't have the surge of hormones you get until later.

  21. QUESTION:
Can someone have all pregnancy symptoms by tricking their body into believing it?
I have a feeling I may be pregnant but I know you can trick your body into believing it so your body responds to you as if you were pregnant, and delay your period and stuff.....

but can it trick your body into having other pregnancy symptoms as well... like getting dizzy and throwing up....etc...???

    is that possible?

    • ANSWER:
I suppose when you want something bad enough you kind of trick yourself into thinking it's happening. You begin to imagine that you have every little symptom because you really want to believe it's true. I think this happens to most of us and is only a very mild case of phantom pregnancy.

A more serious case of phantom pregnancy can even involve the woman looking pregnant with a baby bump, stopping her periods, she can even produce milk and feel movements. She would have all the other normal pregnancy symptoms, sickness, heartburn etc.
I think this must be heartbreaking! Its a cruel trick our body can play on us especially when it's what you want more than anything in the world!

  22. QUESTION:
What were your first pregnancy symptoms? And at how many weeks did you start experiencing them?
    Any uncommon symptoms?

    • ANSWER:
I only had 1 symptom until about 8 weeks in- I had an aversion to meat. Before my missed period,I just couldnt' stand to cook it, smell it or eat anything meat. I then missed my period, and still,no other symptoms aside from the aversion to meat. My friends suggest I did the test, I was totally not convinced when I saw the immediate positive, I did a few more, and then the doc confirmed a week alter. But, I realy didn't believe it. When I went to the doc, I was about 6 weeks along, and didnt' " feel" preggers.
At 8 weeks it changed- Then I got heartburn. No nausea, ( ever) no sore boobs( but i had collustrum), no headaches, no weird aches and pains.. I did't believe I was prego until I started to gain weight and get a belly!!I have a healthy 5 year old litle girl now, so very smart and she's been an angel. It bugs people to hear that I had a perfect pregnancy, delivery and infant.. but hey.. that just means the next one will be OPPOSITE! lol

  23. QUESTION:

    • ANSWER:
      The First Trimester
      (Week 1 - Week 12)

      More about the First Trimester
Your period stops or becomes very light.
You may feel nausea or queasiness. Some women vomit. ("Morning sickness" can happen any time of day -- it may help to eat small meals throughout the day, snack on crackers or toast, or drink juice or lemonade.)
Your breasts swell and may be tender.
Your nipples and the area around the nipples (areola) get darker and broader.
You have to urinate more often.
      You feel tired.
You may become constipated and have heartburn (Tums may help).
      You may have headaches.
You experience mood swings -- feel angry, sad, or happy for no reason.

  24. QUESTION:
What was all your symptoms before ad after you found out you was pregnant?
I would like to know all your symptoms because I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend saturday the 5th of january and i had a mini bleed that day then had it tuesday the 8th of january an tuesday the 15th of january and if I don't come on, on Monday I will be doing a test, but I was just wondering if use had any symptoms? And what they were because I've been getting backache and feeling sick quite a lot...

    • ANSWER:
1st - not one symptom before finding out. Tested day after period didn't show. From 5-12 weeks had very very minor nausea on and off.

2nd - not one symptom before finding out. Tested day period was due. Not one symptom after finding out.
Heartburn really bad from 30 weeks til birth.

3rd - nausea, dizziness, cramps, sore breast, headaches from a week before my period was due. Tested day period was due. Vomitting ++ every day up to and including day of birth, cramps, dizziness, headaches, constant nausea, pelvic pain (weak pelvis), backaches, heartburn, fatigue.

You can't really go by "symptoms" as every person is different. A simple change/increase in hormones can produce so called pregnancy symptoms and it can be your period on its way. A change in hormones prior to period arriving can cause headaches, nausea, hunger, cramps, tiredness etc.

If your period does not arrive on due date, go ahead and take a test following instructions.

  25. QUESTION:
After giving birth- how long till pregnancy symptoms stop?
I've had some pretty bad pregnancy symptoms such as a constant runny nose, excessive salvis, nausea and vomiting, heartburn etc. Once I give birth how long will it take my body to go back to normal? It is pretty much straight away or will it take a couple of weeks depending on the symptom?

    • ANSWER:
EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT AND SO IS EVERY PREGNANCY :)
For me, the symptoms ended immediately. I think that's probably for most women.

  26. QUESTION:
Can I be pregnant and still have mild cramps?
I am a month and a week late, and lately have been having mild cramps. I know I need to take a test and will but just wanted to know if cramping, and having like heartburn and feeling so tired are main good symptoms of pregnancy. The only thing that throws me off is the cramps though.

    • ANSWER:
Yes. When i was pregnant i had them here & there, i think its just that your body is used to getting them monthly, but you should aslways discuss any problems with your dr & take a test.. Good luck!

  27. QUESTION:
Has there been any advances in science to allow men to have ALL the symptoms of pregnancy without being so?
I am not talking about sympathy pains. I am talking about ALL of it. I mean the morning sickness, swollen feet, heartburn, gas, swollen and tender breasts, weight gain, fluid retention, insomnia, lack of energy. Also the contractions would not be a bad idea either.

I think that I read somewhere that someone was working on making this possible so that men could sympathize better with their wives. Have anyone ever heard of this?

    • ANSWER:
No, I haven't heard of that, but I did see somewhere about the male pregnancy. It would be awesome for my husband to experience pregnancy symptoms...maybe he would understand more. BUT that's the beauty of it, women being the only person to carry a baby! That's something a man cannot do. I wouldn't want my husband to have out children, I love being pregnant and I'm glad God made me a women so that I can do that. My husband has had sympathy pains and stuff. He gained about 40 lbs with our first child and lost some after and then gain some more with our 2nd. He had some heartburn, insomnia, and lack of energy. With my current pregnancy, he hasn't complained much about anything. I think it's a funny idea and some men would be up to it, but most don't want to experience what their wifes go through, bc it is heartbreaking!

  28. QUESTION:
What were the first pregnancy symptoms that you got?
were they before your missed period or after?

i had really sore breast and was sleeping way more often.
also heartburn when i ate certin foods...

also.. when did you test positive and what test did you use?

i test positive 6 days late of my period and i used first response.

    • ANSWER:
I found out I'm pregnant last Friday. Yet BEFORE my period was due I was sitting down one day and suddenly felt the whole room tip, I stood up and vomited violently twice. Then that same night I had vivid, strange dreams and these have continued. I would fall asleep, dream for what seemed like weeks, wake up not knowing where I was and then discover I'd only been asleep 10 minutes! I dreamt twice that I had two children (I have just one here) and all this was before my period was due. I think the vomiting and dreaming was when the egg implanted. I also got a three-day migraine before my BFP. Two days after I found my bra didn't fit. Now I have only very sore breasts at night and vivid dreams.

For me the tell-tale sign that I am pregnant has always been: getting insights of beauty - for example I'll be walking down the road and thinking how beautiful and special and amazing everything is - whether its cherry blossom or people laughing or ANYTHING. This has always been my first sign of pregnancy.

  29. QUESTION:
How soon did you start to feel pregnancy symptoms?
What were they? How long after the symptoms did you actually confirm the pregnancy?

    • ANSWER:
I had some major heartburn about a week after conception. I only get it when I am pregnant...and it was really horrible at night. I didn't confirm pregnancy until 5 days after missed period, which would be about 3 weeks after conception. Symptoms don't necessarily mean there is enough HCG in your body to test positive, cause the first test I took was negative. I kept telling the hubby I got pregnant, and he didn't believe me. LoL. Good Luck.

  30. QUESTION:
How soon is it possible to have pregnancy symptoms?
I am just wondering, cause I know that some women don't get any symptoms or signs at all. I am wondering if I am getting any symptoms, this is my first time TTC so I am not experience at it yet. Thanks :)

    • ANSWER:
with my children i didnt really feel much until my missed period! except the week b4 i was due to come on i got period like pains like i do when im due, but then when it gets to my due date i just dont come on my period and then the pain stops! i then feel a little iccky and need to eat frequently but only small! some times u can get tender breasts! my best friend swears she can tell almost the day after conception! but mine is usually after a missed period! x I have just found out i pregnant again and hav heartburn! i will be 4-5 wks

  31. QUESTION:
Why are pregnancy tests so confusing?
I took a test yesterday and it had the faintest postive line I have ever seen! I have almost convinced myself it was just an evaporation line because I have taken 2 tests today and they were negative. What do you girls think? Am I pregnant or not!

Also I have the usual symptoms of early pregnancy. Sore breasts, nausea, heartburn, fatigue. Plus this would be baby #3 so my good sense is saying yes.

    • ANSWER:
Wait a couple more days and then test. Congrats I know that you instinctively know when you are pregnant-all the best

  32. QUESTION:
When should I get symptoms and start showing?
I will be 4 weeks pregnant tomorrow with my second. Everyone tells me symptoms and starting to show happens sooner with the second, when should I expect?

    • ANSWER:
This is my second. Here's when my stuff happened:

Baby 1 started morning sickness at 6 weeks (severe). Little (but some) actual sickness with 2, but quite a lot of nausea starting as early as week 7

Started showing about the same time - aroud 14-15 weeks with a pronounced baby bump athough in a sweatshirt at 20 weeks you still can't really tell.

Heartburn and insomnia started earlier with the 2nd - around 10-12 weeks. Round ligament pain earlier with 2nd - around 13-14 weeks.

FELT the baby MOVE way earlier this time!! Started around 15 weeks with the flutters (probably because I knew what I was looking for). I didn't feel my son until I knew he was a son:)

FATIGUE has been way worse with this pregnancy all around from the beginning. Most people say it's because im chasing a toddler, which is probably true. But also I think it's me being 4 years older, and just the general toll of pregnancy.

Anyway, this is just me but hope this helps!:)

  33. QUESTION:

I just wanted to know when does fatigue and nausea and cramping for pregnancy symptoms usually start I know it is different for everyone but is 2 days way to early for cramping and nausea.....

    • ANSWER:
everybody is different, i am ttc and i am 6dpo today i have been experiencing really bad heartburn which is a first for me. i am a mum of 2 and didn't have any early symptoms, although i cant really say that as with my 2 i wasn't trying so wasn't looking for symptoms, some people have symptoms from day 1 some don't get any at all.

  34. QUESTION:
Is it possible to get pregnancy symptoms even if there is no relation?
I recently discoverd that my coworkers which happens to be a good friend of mine is pregnant. I have never experience heartburn or light headedness since I was pregnant with my son. And there is NO possible way that I could be pregnant.

    • ANSWER:
      Yes. It is called "Pseudocyesis"

      Read up:

Pseudocyesis also known as false pregnancy, can cause many of the signs and symptoms associated with pregnancy, and can resemble the condition in every way except for fetal presence. Other names include - spurious pregnancy, feigned pregnancy, imaginary pregnancy, hysterical pregnancy, wind in the bowels, phantom pregnancy and grossesse nerveuse ("mental pregnancy"). John Mason Good coined the term pseudocyesis from the Greek words pseudes (false) and kyesis (pregnancy) in 1923. False pregnancy is common in many mammals and is a method of providing milk for the group's offspring, most often cats, dogs, and rabbits.

      [edit] History
Cases of pseudocyesis have been documented since antiquity. Hippocrates gives us the first written account around 300 B.C. when he recorded 12 different cases of women with the disorder. Mary Tudor (1516-1558), Queen of England, was perhaps the most famous of western historical examples, who believed on several occasions that she was pregnant, when she was in fact not. Some even attribute the violence that gave her the nickname "Bloody Mary" to be a reaction to her disappointment on realising she was without child. Other medical historians believe that the queen's physicians mistook fibroid tumors in her uterus for a pregnancy.

      [edit] Signs and symptoms
The symptoms of pseudocyesis are similar to the symptoms of true pregnancy and are often hard to distinguish from it. Such natural signs as amenorrhoea, morning sickness, tender breasts, and weight gain may all be present. Many health care professionals can be deceived by the symptoms associated with pseudocyesis. Research shows that 18% of women with pseudocyesis were at one time diagnosed as pregnant by medical professionals.

The hallmark sign of pseudocyesis that is common to all cases is that the affected patient is convinced that she is pregnant. Abdominal distension is the most common physical symptom of pseudocyesis (60– 90%). The abdomen expands in the same manner as it does during pregnancy, so that the affected woman looks pregnant. This phenomenon is thought to be caused by buildup of gas, fat, feces, or urine. These symptoms often resolve under general anesthesia and the woman's abdomen returns to its normal size.

The second most common physical sign of pseudocyesis is menstrual irregularity (50–90%). Women are also reported to experience the sensation of fetal movements known as quickening (medical), even though there is no fetus present (50%-75%).Other common signs and symptoms include: gastrointestinal symptoms, breast changes or secretions, labor pains, uterine enlargement, and softening of the cervix. One percent of women eventually experience false labor.

      [edit] Causes
There are various explanations, none of which are universally accepted. Psychodynamic theories attribute the false pregnancy to emotional conflict. It is thought that an intense desire to become pregnant, or an intense fear of becoming pregnant, can create internal conflicts and changes in the endocrine system, which may explain some of the symptoms of pseudocyesis. Another theory concerns wish-fulfillment. It holds that if a women desires pregnancy badly enough she may interpret minor changes in her body as signs of pregnancy.

Biological mechanisms proposed include the effect of stress on the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis, constipation, weight gain and the movement of intestinal gas.

The rate of pseudocyesis in the United States has declined significantly in the past century. In the 1940s there was one occurrence for approximately every 250 pregnancies. This rate has since dropped to between one and six occurrences for every 22,000 births. The average age of the affected woman is 33, though cases have been reported for women as young as 6-1/2 and as old as 79. More than two-thirds of women who experience pseudocyesis are married, and about one-third have been pregnant at least once. Women who have been victims of incest may be at greater risk for developing pseudocyesis.

      [edit] Treatment
Because pseudocyesis is not known to have a direct underlying physical cause, there are no general recommendations regarding treatment with medications. In some cases, however, the patient may be given medications for such symptoms as the cessation of menstruation. Because most patients with pseudocyesis have underlying psychological problems, they should be referred to a psychotherapist for the treatment of these problems. It is important at the same time, however, for the treating professional not to minimize the reality of the patient's physical symptoms.

The treatment that has had the most success is demonstrating to the patient that she is not really pregnant by the use of ultrasound or other imaging techniques.

      [edit] Alternative therapies
There have been reports of patients being cured of pseudocyesis by hypnosis, purgatives, massage, opioids, or after nine months of symptoms, by experiencing "hysterical childbirth," but there are few data available on the effectiveness of these or similar procedures.

  35. QUESTION:
Are these normal symptoms for late pregnancy or a sign of labor?
My wife is 38 weeks pregnant. Today, she lost some of her mucus plug. She has been having a lot of contractions, but they aren't every three to five minutes apart and they aren't too bad. She gets to the point to where the pain gets so bad she can't even stand up. Also she is having constant heartburn, and when she usually has it it's not constant. Any suggestions for the pain or what this may sound like?

    • ANSWER:
It could be Braxton Hicks ('fake contractions') or the beginning of labor.
When I went into labor with my son my contractions were 5 minutes apart; that is when I headed for Labor and Delivery.

I also lost pieces of my mucous plug at 38 weeks .. but my son was still born 1 week LATE! .. he was born at 41 weeks.

The Braxton Hicks can last for weeeeeeks!

Have her call her OB's office and tell them everything that is going on; they can tell her whether or not they're braxton hicks or real contractions.

(they will tell her to time them .. then call back when they're 5 minutes apart .. but it's still better to hear it from a Professional =]

  36. QUESTION:
What are the first and earliest signs of pregnancy?
I've had constant nausia for the last week and a half. I've always eaten spicey foods, but got heartburn the last time I just ate chips & salsa. So tired, every day. I've been on the pill for 8 years, and always take it right. Is it possible for me to get pregnant?

    • ANSWER:
I experienced fatigue, especially while at work. Lol, particularly at a bad time, I was up for a promotion, it didn't help my job performance all that well. Lol. That's what prompted me to take a pregnancy test. I felt fatigued, I would crave foods I didn't normally eat, I could barely eat, food just wouldn't stay down because of the nausea. I was horribly cranky! Almost like PMS, and I've never had PMS. I missed my cycle by 3 days, so I was concerned about that. I slept way too much. I cold sleep a whole day away. After my test came out positive I went to the doctor, and they said I was 6 weeks pregnant. I'm almost 20 weeks now. Symptoms are different for everyone though. So, it may vary for you.

  37. QUESTION:
How Long before I start having symptoms?
How long after you are pregnant do you start to have symptoms? What are some symptoms besides a missed period?
I should have mentioned that my husband and I are trying to conceive so I am just wondering what to look for. It's not that I think I am. I am just trying to learn. Sorry peoples.

    • ANSWER:
Symptoms are not generally noticable until around the fifth or sixth week of conception, after you miss your first period. However, many women say they feel symptoms within a couple weeks.

      Sypmtoms:
      - A Missed Period. Missing your period is the most clear-cut sign of pregnancy. But it is not definitive, as stress or other factors may cause irregular periods.

      - Frequent Trips to the Bathroom. Even before missing a period, most pregnant women report having to go to the bathroom more often. You may even have to get up during the night! This occurs after the embryo has implanted in the uterus and begins producing the pregnancy hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This hormone triggers frequent urination.

      - Fatigue. Utter exhaustion is a very early sign of pregnancy. Fatigue is a result of high levels of the hormone progesterone.
      Morning (and Noon and Night!)

      - Sickness. Guess what? That queasy feeling isn't limited to mornings. Most pregnant women who experience morning sickness feel slightly nauseated at other times during the day as well. About half have vomiting, but very few have severe enough morning sickness to develop dehydration and malnutrition.

      - Sore (and Enlarged) Breasts. If you're pregnant, your breasts will probably become increasingly tender to the touch, similar to the way they feel before your period, only more so. Once your body grows accustomed to the increase in hormones, the pain will subside.

      More Symptoms:
      missed menstrual period
      nausea
      extreme fatigue
      frequent urination
      tender breasts
      headache
      heartburn
      constipation
      spotting
      feeling faint

  38. QUESTION:
Having pregnancy symptoms but had a short weird period?
So my husband and I are trying to have our second child, I have been feeling symptoms of pregnancy, such as nausea, tummy cramps, lower back pain, indigestion, sometimes heartburn (which I only got while I was prego with my daughter) and a huge increase in vaginal discharge. But I had a short weird period about a week ago. It was a couple days early and only lasted 1 1/2 days followed by 3 days of brown spotting/discharge. I have taken 3 hpts that are all negative. :( could I still be pregnant?

    • ANSWER:
It is through missing a period that you suspect of pregnancy. So, you are most likely not pregnant.

  39. QUESTION:
What did you do to relieve this pregnancy symptom?
I am 30 weeks pregnant and have some serious leg cramps at night. I went and saw a doctor and I don't have any blood clots. I have read up on this symptom, but none of the "What to Expect" books suggestions worked for me. Any tested methods that worked for you would be a great.

    • ANSWER:
I had terrible leg cramps. I am a grandmother now and still get leg cramps. Each of my daughters suffered with them too and the following remedy has worked for us all.

THe best solution I have found was to eat potassium rich foods, which are healthy for you anyway. A banana, a kiwi fruit, some blueberries (those are my favorites), even a gatoraide although gatoraide can also cause some heartburn. When I was pregnant I had terrible heartburn too so I avoided gatoraide. Anyway, eat a banana or kiwi each night before bed.

For a nice bed-time treat, slice a banana up in a bowl and pour a little milk on it (so you get your calcium too). Drizzle it with real honey. Within just a couple of nights you will notice a reduced amount of leg cramps. Some finer fruited yogurts also are high in potassium. I hope this helps.

You might also try some leg warmers (if you can find them). THey used to be easy to find, but now you'd probably have to get them from a dance supply place.

  40. QUESTION:
What week in your pregnancy did your symptoms start?
Im just curious, I will be 6 weeks tomorrow and I am curious to see if a lot of women started experiencing a lot more symptoms at 6 weeks. Thank you

    • ANSWER:
Yes normally the symptoms start or get worst at 6 weeks but I had some signs earlier. I had cramps, sore breast, and heartburn early on and then VERY bad morning sickness, more tired than normal, frequent urination was about 6 weeks when it kicked in. I didn't have any morning sickness til then but at 6 weeks it kicked in and I was so sick I could barely make it out of the bathroom at all during the day and woke up running to the bathroom sick in the middle of the night.

  41. QUESTION:
Have any of your girls have these symptoms before your missed period?
I am having like these flu like symptoms along with a feeling of slight burning in my stomach and nausea, I also feel like there is something that needs to come up but never does, and hate strong smells lately. Could I be pregnant? We are ttc#2 but my period is not due for another week.

    • ANSWER:
The symptoms we feel during pregnancy are caused by our body's reaction to hCG and we don't start producing the hormone until after implantation. If your period is still a week away then it's pretty unlikely you'd have implantation yet. Even if you have implanted it's unlikely your hormone levels are anywhere near high enough to cause pregnancy symptoms. That doesn't mean it's impossible you're pregnant, just that's it's really too early to tell.

Try taking a couple of Tums and see if you feel better. It sounds like you have a little heartburn.

Good luck! I hope you get a positive test this month!

  42. QUESTION:
What do you find to be the most annoying during your pregnancy?
I find that the excessive gas and heartburn is really starting to irritate me even more as it gets worse. Also, i can't go 2 hours straight of sleeping without having to rush to the bathroom before I pee all over myself, lol!

    • ANSWER:
Congrats on your pregnancy!! I found the most annoying physical symptom to be the sickness...I stayed sick the entire pregnancy with both my kids...

Other things I found annoying were strangers giving me medical and parenting advice, and touching my stomach...I hated people touching my stomach!!

  43. QUESTION:
If I'm not having very bad symptoms of pregnancy, does that mean my hcg levels will be low?
I've felt tired, and have been constipated. I get heartburn, nausea, and head aches once in a while. My back also aches but not my lower back my upper back. It feels good for my lower back when I stretch.

    • ANSWER:

  44. QUESTION:
What were your earliest pregnancy symptoms?
My husband and I are TTC and I was just wondering about the earliest pregnancy symptoms others felt.
    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
First ... the mother of all morning sickness i was sick 24/7 for the first 30 wks of my pregnancy ..

Second .. I got implantation bleeding from 4 to 8 wks

Third.. I had cramping from 8 to 20 wks

Forth ... I was tired from 4 up until now at 38 wks 4 days

Fifth... I had horrible headaches from 9 to 28 wks

Sixth... The most horrible heartburn from 20 wks up until now at 38 wks 4 days .. As much as 3-4 times a day , and nothing helps to relieve it

My eatting habits changed a little . I wasn't hungry most of the time , and now there is some much baby in me that sometimes i have to remind myself to eat half the time ...

  45. QUESTION:
How soon do you typically feel the symptoms associated with pregnancy?
It's too soon for me to take a pregnancy test. My period isn't due until the end of the month. There's a chance that I am pregnant right now but I'm curious if I would be feeling symptoms, such as morning sickness, this early if I am pregnant.

    • ANSWER:
It's really different for each woman. You normally see the signs of pregnancy before you feel them. For me, it was a missed period, then more-than-usual discharge, extra trips to urinate, tender breasts, and then exhaustion. All in that order. I'm waiting on the morning sickness. It happened to me the last two times, and it hates me. Then will come the hip sciatica problem, heartburn, and more exhaustion and peeing. Finally, swelling of legs and feet and the baby will be here soon. All typical for me. But like I said, every woman is different.

  46. QUESTION:
Crushing and Tearing Sensations In Upper Abdomen and Heartburn in 3rd Trimester. Anyone Else Experienced this?
Iam 34 weeks pregnant with baby #1, I woke up this morning at 6am with crushing and tearing pains at the top of my abdomen just under my ribs. It felt as though my stomach was being crushed and I also had heartburn. This combined with back ache and a very active baby made it impossible to go back to sleep for 3 hours. Are these normal symptoms of pregnancy?

  47. QUESTION:
Do you still have pregnancy symptoms after a miscarriage?
Is it possible to still experience nausea, dizziness, heartburn and sore nipples after miscarriage? If so how long does it last for?

    • ANSWER:
yes, until your hormone levels return to normal. 4-6 weeks.

  48. QUESTION:
what's the difference between period and pregnancy signs? how can you tell the difference?
if these are the symptoms for pregnancy during the first month, then what's the difference between that and the week leading up to your period. how can you tell the difference??
    light bleeding
    muscle aches
    headaches
    cramps
    fatigue
    sore breasts
    brown nipples
    mood swings
    weird cravings
    nausea
    heartburn
    bloating
    feeling of metal in mouth
    brown spots
    acne

    • ANSWER:
You can't always. In the week before I found out I was pregnant I was convinced I was getting my period because the symptoms were exactly the same. In fact it's not unusual that every 4 weeks when your period would have been due during your pregnancy to get 'pms' or cramping like your period is coming, I did.

  49. QUESTION:
how possible is it to be pregnant and have a period?
I have been on and off bc pills for a few years (mostly on lol). I took my last "blank" pill on 8-4-07. I have been having unprotected sex ever since then. I've heard that once you're on birth control that it may take a few months for the pill to "deactivate". I already have a child already but experianced no symptoms during the pregnancy. Now, I am concerned that I'm pregant. The only symptoms that I have had are mild nausea and heartburn, light cramping (which I heard can be normal), larger appetite, a tiny bit of soreness and some hardening in my breasts, and last night i got up and almost threw up. On top of that, my boyfriend was sick this weekend throwing up. He said that I was pregnant because the only time he gets sick like that is around girls that are pregnant. Today is ususally the day that I have my period and I did get it today but I'm not sure if I should still take a pregnancy test just to be sure or not. If so, do I need to wait until I'm off my period?

    • ANSWER:
You can take one just to make sure, but probably not if you're having a regular period.

  50. QUESTION:
